Free & Reduced Tickets

Information on free entry to the cathedral and discounts for the tower and treasury.

As of July 2026, a €12 ticket is required to enter the main area of Cologne Cathedral (free access remains for those visiting to pray via the North Transept). For the ticketed attractions, several concessions are available.

Eligibility for Free & Reduced Entry

Free Entry

Cathedral Nave: Entry to the main part of the cathedral is free for all visitors during liturgical services.
Worship: Entry is always free for those attending mass or for private prayer.
Children under 6: Children under six get free admission to the Tower and Treasury.

Reduced Tickets (€4 per attraction, €6 combined)

The following groups are eligible for a reduced-price ticket for the Tower Climb and Cathedral Treasury upon presentation of a valid ID:

Children and Schoolchildren (6-17 years)
Students
Persons with special needs / disabilities

How to Claim

For Free Entry to the Nave: Simply walk in during the liturgical services, but be mindful and respectful towards the worshippers.

For Reduced Tickets: Go to the ticket counter at the entrance of the Tower or Treasury and present your valid identification (e.g., student card, disability card) to purchase your discounted ticket. Tickets cannot be bought online.

Common questions about pricing

Is there a senior discount?

Currently, the cathedral does not list a specific discount for seniors. The standard adult price applies.

Do companions of disabled visitors get free entry?

Policies for companions can vary. It is best to inquire at the ticket desk, as a companion may be granted free or reduced entry depending on the circumstances.

Will the cathedral really start charging for entry?

The Cathedral Chapter has announced plans to introduce an admission fee for tourists starting in summer 2026 to cover high maintenance costs. Worshippers will remain exempt. The exact price and start date have not yet been confirmed.
